Last week, I did a roundup of free blogging tools to help you plan what you’re doing. Now that you’ve planned your post, it’s time to get that puppy written. Check out these free writing tools that help with everything from the perfect headline to writing the body of your post.

Free Writing Tools

1. CoSchedule Headline Analyzer

Now, I’m a huge fan of CoSchedule on many fronts, but it’s not free. That said, they do have some free writing tools that I can’t omit. My favorite of these is their headline analyzer. You’ll have to enter your email address to use it, which puts you on their email list. I really don’t think, however, that is a huge price to pay. CoSchedule will send you amazing content that you can use to sharpen your marketing prowess. But… I digress.

I honestly never write a post without using this tool. Just type in your headline, and the tool rates it based on a whole bunch of factors. It considers word balance, emotion, and headline type, among other factors before rendering a score. You can sit and play with word combinations to your heart’s content, and it will keep rating them over and over. Pretty powerful, as far as free blogging tools go!

2. Yoast SEO

If you’ve heard of WordPress, you’ve likely heard of Yoast SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it’s basically the art of creating a site with content that will rank for search engines. In other words, you’re trying to figure out how to play Google’s game so you get noticed.

Yoast SEO is a plugin that works within WordPress on each post or page you create. You plug in the keywords for that entry, and it will let you know how well you’re doing on optimizing your post for those keywords. It gives suggestions and serves as a checklist so you don’t forget stuff like adding alt image tags to give those keywords a boost. Bonus points: it also gives you a readability analysis to help structure your content.

3. Grammarly

So I am a Grammar Nerd, and I’m not afraid to admit it. Grammar nerds unite! If this isn’t you (or even if it is), you may need a little grammar help from time to time. Even the greatest grammarian needs a backup sometimes. We all make mistakes!

If you’d like a little help in the grammar department, Grammarly is just the tool for you. It’s like having your own little grammar angel (or devil, depending on how you look at it) right on your shoulder giving you grammar help. Additionally, it’s not just for blog posts. You can install that puppy right on your email provider and make sure your emails (especially the professional ones) don’t elicit this reaction from people like me.
